A Redesigned Timer for Quanta
What changed in the timer redesign: @ and # tokens in the entry bar, one-tap resume chips, a continuous list instead of pages, untracked gaps you can fill in place, and a proper editor on your phone.
We've redesigned the timer. Your entries, reports, and invoices are untouched; what changed is how quickly you can start tracking something and how quickly you can fix something you logged earlier.
Here's what's new.
Type @ for a project, # for a tag
The entry bar's description field now understands two tokens. Type @ and the project and task picker opens inline, filtered as you type, so "@web" has Website Redesign highlighted before you finish the word. Type # and tags work the same way, including creating a new tag on the spot. Enter starts the timer.
This is the same picker the Project button opens, not a second one with its own rules. The buttons are still there, and the existing keyboard shortcuts (⌘⇧S to start and stop, ⌘⇧P for projects) still work. The tokens mean a whole entry can happen in one field without leaving the keyboard.
Resume recent work
A new row of chips under the entry bar shows your recent tasks, each with its project colour. One click starts the clock on that work again.
The list is continuous
The old list paginated: a hundred rows, then page 2. It is now a continuous feed. Days are grouped under headings, weeks are separated as you pass them, and scrolling keeps pulling in earlier weeks. If the week you land on is empty, the list looks back on its own until it finds your work rather than showing an empty screen.
The ‹ › arrows and a calendar jump (now the app's own date picker rather than the browser default) move you to any week directly, and the same navigation works in all three views.
Untracked gaps
If there is a hole of 30 minutes or more between two entries today, a slim row shows it in place, with the exact window and a Fill this gap link that prefills a manual entry with those times. Nothing is filled in for you, and the feature can be turned off entirely.
Repeats collapse into one row
The list has always grouped repeats of the same work. That grouping got stricter and quieter: entries with the same description, project, task and now the same tags collapse into a single row, collapsed by default, carrying a count and the combined total, with the expander sitting at the end of the row where every other control is. Expand the row when you need to edit one of the entries individually.
Inline editing picked up a few fixes as well. An overnight entry (11pm to 1am) now shows a +1d badge so you can see it was read as crossing midnight, and an edit that produces something suspicious, like a 23 hour entry from a PM/AM typo, warns you instead of silently saving. A rejected edit keeps the editor open with the reason rather than discarding your typing. The date is also editable right next to the times, in every mode, so a misfiled entry no longer needs to be deleted and retyped.
Editing on a phone
On narrow screens a row has no room for a start and end column, and the inline fields that remain are too small to hit reliably. So on a phone, tapping an entry now opens a bottom sheet instead.
The sheet carries exactly what the row carries and nothing more: description, project and task, tags, date, start and end, duration, with a row of common durations underneath. Billing fields stay in the reports editor, where they belong.
Daily targets in the week view
The Week view now opens with a seven day strip, each day drawn as a bar against your daily target, amber when you are under it. Pick a day to see its entries, and a new quick-add row on the current week logs straight into whichever day is selected.
The Grid view, for people who just want a timesheet of hours in cells, is unchanged and shares the same navigation.
Display settings
A new settings popover next to the view switcher makes the timer yours without touching anyone else's:
- Resume recent, Tags and Gap detection each switch off if they are noise for how you work
- AI features hides all of the timer's AI affordances in one switch
- Density picks between Cozy and Compact, and Compact also trades the week view's bars for more visible entries
- Time format (12/24 hour) and Durations (6:30 vs 6.50h) live here too; those are your existing profile settings, surfaced where you will actually look for them
- Daily target sets the bar the week view measures against
And one more: you can now create a project from inside the timer's project picker, if you have permission to create projects, so a new workspace no longer sends you to the Projects page and back before your first entry.

Everything above is live now. Open the timer and type @ to try the picker.
