What is Quanta?

Time tracking, project budgets and invoicing for teams, at one flat price.

Applies to:
Everyone

Quanta is a time tracker built for teams that bill for their time. You track hours against clients and projects, keep an eye on budgets as the hours come in, and turn the tracked time into invoices without leaving the app.

The pieces

  • Workspace. Your company's own space: its people, clients, projects, time entries and invoices. One login can belong to several workspaces (see Switching between workspaces).
  • Clients and projects. Time is always logged to a project, and every project belongs to a client. A project decides how its time is billed: by the hour, as one fixed fee, or not at all.
  • Time entries. A description, a project, optionally a task and tags, and either a start and end time or just a duration. You create them with a running timer, by hand, from a spreadsheet-style weekly grid, or by describing your day to AI.
  • Budgets. Hours or money, for the whole project, per task or per person, with optional resets and low limits. Reports flag projects as they run down.
  • Invoices. Pull uninvoiced billable time, expenses and fees onto an invoice, send it as a PDF, record payments, and let automatic reminders chase late ones. Push everything to QuickBooks Online or Xero if you use them.
  • Timesheets and approvals. Optional weekly timesheets that people submit and approvers sign off.

Who does what

Quanta has two built-in roles and lets admins create more.

RoleTypicallySees
UserEveryone who tracks timeTheir own timer, the projects they are on, their own reports and timesheets
AdminOwners, office managers, team leadsEverything: all time, all projects, invoicing, settings, people and billing

Custom roles sit anywhere in between; see Roles and permissions. On a single project, members can additionally be a Lead or Manager, which changes what they see about that project's money.

Where things live in the app

The sidebar is grouped the same way this help center is:

  • Analytics. Dashboard, Team and the Reports.
  • Time Tracking. Timer, plus My timesheets and Timesheets when weekly timesheets are switched on.
  • Business & Projects. Projects, Tasks, Notifications, Clients, Tags, Invoices, Retainers, Expenses and Integrations.
  • Administration. Roles, Users, Audit Logs, Subscription, Credits, Reminders, Workspace Settings, API Keys, Invoice Item Types and Import.

Items you do not have permission for are hidden, so a User's sidebar is much shorter than an Admin's.

Ways to track time

Beyond the web app, the same account works from:

  • Quanta Desktop, a menu bar timer for Mac and Windows with a global shortcut and idle detection. See Desktop app.
  • Claude and other AI assistants, through the Quanta MCP server. See Log time from Claude.
  • Your own scripts, through the public API.

Pricing in one line

Individual is for one person; Team covers up to 100 people for one flat monthly price. Every feature is in both. See Subscription and billing.
